How we work through a water problem

From the first sample to the day the pump room runs quiet, here is the order we follow on borehole, municipal and rainwater jobs across Gauteng and the Western Cape.

What you get out of the way we work

Every job runs on the same order: sample first, size the equipment to the actual numbers, then install and log the readings. These are the parts clients notice most, whether the site is a farm borehole outside Hartbeespoort or a pump room in a Stellenbosch guesthouse.

Lab numbers before any hardware

Iron, manganese, hardness and bacterial counts get tested on your borehole or municipal line before we quote a filter. A media bed sized off a guess either clogs early or lets staining through, so the sample decides the vessel size and backwash cycle.

Equipment matched to the pump house

Tight rooms, low headroom and existing JoJo tanks all shape the layout. We mount skids on raised frames, route drain lines to the nearest soakaway, and keep cartridge housings reachable so a sediment change does not mean moving pipework.

Readings logged after commissioning

You get the before-and-after figures in writing, not just a working tap. On a recent Hartbeespoort job iron dropped from 3.1 mg/L to under 0.1 mg/L, and that record is what tells you the filter is still doing its job two years later.

Pressure that holds with several taps open

Cycling pressure switches and undersized vessels are usually behind a shower that dies when the kitchen tap runs. A correctly sized booster pump and pressure vessel even out demand across units, rooms or irrigation points.

Maintenance you can actually keep up with

Sediment cartridges, UV lamp hours and backwash settings are written onto a wall chart in the pump room. Guesthouse owners and body corporates can hand that schedule to a caretaker without needing a technician on site every month.

Process techs and a certified plumber work the same job, so trenching, tank stands, pressure vessel plumbing and UV disinfection are not split across three contractors blaming each other when something leaks.

How to reach the team while a job is running

Most days we are on site, so replies come in between installs and callouts. Send through your latest lab results and a photo of the pump house, and we can usually tell you which stage of treatment is missing before anyone drives out. If it is a burst line or a pump that has stopped, say so in the first line and we will move it up the queue.

How a job moves from first message to working water

Most calls start the same way: rust stains in a basin, grit in the kettle, or pressure that dies when a second tap opens. Here is the order we work in, and what we need from you at each point so nothing stalls on site.

  1. Step 1

    Send the lab results and a pump house photo

    Your latest water analysis tells us iron, manganese, hardness and bacterial counts. A photo of the pump room, tank stand and incoming line shows whether there is wall space for a filtration skid or only floor room.

  2. Step 2

    Site visit and flow test

    We measure yield at the borehole or incoming municipal line, check pressure switch behaviour, and note pipe sizes and drain points. On farms and smallholdings this is also when we look at trenching routes and power at the pump.

  3. Step 3

    Sizing the treatment train

    Sediment filtration, iron and manganese media, UV disinfection, booster pumps and pressure vessels get matched to your actual peak demand, not a nameplate figure. You get the equipment list and layout before anything is ordered.

  4. Step 4

    Install and plumbing work

    A certified plumber handles the connections, tank stands, pressure vessel mounting and trenching. Filtration skids are assembled and pressure-tested before the supply is switched back on, usually inside one working day.

  5. Step 5

    Before-and-after readings

    We sample at the same tap as the original test and log the numbers side by side. If iron or manganese is still above target, the media bed or backwash cycle gets adjusted before we call the job done.

  6. Step 6

    Handover and maintenance schedule

    Cartridge change intervals, UV lamp hours and backwash settings go on a wall chart in the pump room. Guesthouses and body corporates get a written schedule so the next person on site knows what to check.
